From the designer's notebook - a modern classic

From the designer's notebook - a modern classic

As a rule, we are all afraid of changes, we arrange apartments "forever", furniture we buy "once in a lifetime". When choosing, we use common sense - they should be universal, armored, durable, indestructible…. Just like the path of life we have chosen.

We like classic interiors, especially in the version with a modern twist. The classic is the opposite of "being trendy", it does not force you to continuous efforts, it will not get bored after a few seasons, it is safe, calm and balanced. And although nothing is forever, we want to believe that we will be able to create a haven that will resist the storms of history. I too succumbed to this temptation. What to consider when designing a timeless house? Briefly some helpful hints.

colors

When planning the colors of this interior, I wanted to prove that grays, whites and blacks are not, as is commonly believed, "cold" colors. The atmosphere, not the color itself, determines whether the interior is cool or warm and friendly. I like black and white - when considering the symbolism of colors, it is white and black that mark the beginning and the end. White is the color of birth and innocence, black is the color of death. For me personally, shades of white, black and a range of gray would be enough to express all states of emotions, all thoughts and moods 🙂 also in interiors.

And when we add a strong element to this limited range of colors: intense in color obraz, a scaled photograph, a large ceramic form or a bouquet of colorful flowers picked in a meadow creates a "recipe for an ideal interior". A colorful object catches the eye, becomes a central motif, stands out against a calm background, like a decorative brooch on a "little black dress". It does not have to be a work of great art, having an iPhone you can take a beautiful photo, enlarge it, frame it and hang it on the wall. Additionally, such "picture writing" writes our own history and personifies the interior.

Details

Wall stuccoes, skirting boards, facets, door joinery, door handles and furniture handles are the quiet heroes of "classy interiors". They dress the walls and provide a stylish background for furniture and interior design. Although they are a challenge for the budget, it is worth investing in them at the very beginning of the project, because they cannot be replaced with anything else, and subsequent modifications are very expensive.

On the contrary, it is the case with decorative items, "stools" - gadgets that clog space in order to tame it. In the case of unnecessary decorations, let's follow the rule: the less the better. In Arab art, where every centimeter of architecture is filled with an architectural and floral motif, the phenomenon of fear of space is called “horror vacui. Meanwhile, the crowd of decorative accessories is not at all necessary for the interior to be perceived as "nice" and "atmospheric". Good proportions, symmetry and a well-composed space are enough. For example, when we hang a picture on the wall, the remaining walls can be left blank to create the desired contrast and tension. It's just like in music - a moment of silence is also part of the melody - necessary for the beautiful sound of the whole.

Symetria

Clearly delineated functional zones and axial room arrangements strengthen our sense of comfort and make it easy for us to find ourselves even in an unfamiliar interior. We intuitively know where the entrance hall leads to and which couch to sit on. We can't name it, but we feel "that everything fits together".

Discipline and consistency, although it does not sound "sexy", is a guarantee of success, also in interior design :).

Light

I attach great importance to the design of lighting and window decoration. Light is extremely important, it creates a specific mood at any time of the day or night. Differentiation of light sources, dividing them into zones - upper light, sconces, floor lamps i floor tiles allow for any light direction, which translates into countless hours of satisfaction with the investment in lamps and bulbs. Modern lighting techniques and LED bulbs allow you to choose the color and power of light, and well-chosen blinds, curtains and curtains optimize the amount of daylight. The right amount of light affects our well-being and health, not to mention the atmosphere of the interior.
